Wrote application using Microsoft Visual Studio .Net © for Intermec © devices running Microsoft Windows CE that allow CIT crews for armoured carrier to scan parcel contents upon pickup and reconcile to manifest to ensure all parcels are received and contain the appropriate contents. Devices automatically synchronized with SQL database at terminal to upload truck contents for verification by vault staff.

Overview of the requirement:

CIT (Cash in transit) crews were spending hours having to write up delivery manifests for cash parcels to be delivered to branch locations. Volume of parcels made it impossible to determine if all parcels were received and whether the total value of the shipment was present.

Description of the solution:

A custom application was written using the Microsoft .Net framework to work in Windows CE on Intermec hand-held devices. Crews begin by keying in the summary information of each shipment (total value, total number of pieces to be received) and then begin scanning the parcels. Each parcel displayed a bar code from the customer identifying the value of the parcel, the piece count and the destination of the package. After all parcels were scanned the crew knew immediately whether all parcels had been received and whether or not the total value of the shipment was correct. Upon returning to base the parcels were automatically uploaded to an SQL database for sorting and processing based on the destination code of the package. This allowed for the automatic generation of delivery manifests for the crews. Saved several man-hours per day and improved efficiency. Lost or misplaced parcels were located quickly and incorrect shipments were nearly eliminated.
