Integrated two-factor identification with RSA SecurID © into login screen of several custom applications. Users were required to enter a personal password, a 4 digit PIN accompanied with number displayed on their RSA token to gain access to high security applications.ons.

Overview of the requirement:

We were approached by a customer already using RSA tokens to restrict access to their internal networks and VPN channels and asked to build a .COM+ wrapper to allow integration of the SecurID tokens into existing applications that required a high level of security. Integrating the RSA technology into an application login screen eliminates the most common security threat of people sharing passwords. Without your 4 digit PIN and the randomly generated number on the token the user cannot be authenticated.

Description of the solution:

Because the technology was to be used in more than one custom software solution, a neat, easy-to-use component had to be written that could be plugged into any application. This was accomplished by encapsulating the C++ API into a reusable COM component that could be used by VB6 applications. With just a few lines of code a traditional login screen containing just a user name and password could be customized to include the RSA Pin + random number on the token greatly improving application security. Later the component was also integrated into a .Net application as well.
